It’s a brand new year so it seems appropriate for my first featured session of 2016 to be a brand new baby! This newborn session was unlike any of my others and ultimately became one of my favorites of all time. Little Rory (Aurora) was older than my usual newborn clients so we opted to do a more lifestyle-type session… without the posing equipment and naked baby poses.
On my way to the session, Mom texted me to let me know their house was ‘being remodeled and we are living in an apartment in the back‘. It didn’t sound like an ideal situation for newborn photos and I’ll admit I was nervous. Until Mom brought me into the space… and my jaw dropped. A stunning apartment that they built (a mother-in-law type suite) that was bright & white & full of dreamy daylight even though it was pouring rain. I made Mom promise I could turn their apartment into my photo studio after they move back into their house.
Here are my favorites from Rory’s newborn session (featuring LOTS of appearances by big brother Sammy!)…
I love that they wanted Sammy to be a part of the photo shoot. I had some serious flashbacks to introducing my baby Colin to my first born baby Colby Jack (who just so happens to TOTALLY BE SAMMY’S LONG LOST TWIN!)
At the end of the session, we ventured into their house. Mom wasn’t lying when she said it was ‘being remodeled’… it was gutted. Completely. Oh, and one quick, yet very important thing to note: these guys lived in a tent in the backyard while both their home & the apartment were under construction. FOR MONTHS. WHILE PREGNANT. Seriously give this momma a medal!
We took a quick photo in the space that will soon become Baby Rory’s nursery. So fun, right?
Guys, congrats on Baby Girl! Best of luck with the rest of the remodel project… I love your spirit of adventure!
expecting a baby?
Congratulations! A photo session with Miss Freddy, West Seattle newborn photographer, is the perfect way to document the fleeting early days [which is important because it’s quite possible you may not remember them due to sleep deprivation!] in the comfort of your own home. Plus, get a discounted maternity session when you book a Newborn Special. Maternity photos are best at the beginning of the third trimester & newborn photos within the first two weeks, so contact me during your second trimester! I can’t wait to meet your (growing) family!
