documenting childhood: birthday banner

This year I’ve been devoting one week a month to a themed blog series, with daily blog posts.  I’ve talked all about project life, shared some ‘wish someone told me sooner’ parenting advice, written about ways to preserve your memories/photos, revealed our favorite things in West Seattle, taught a few easy photo editing tips & celebrated my third birthday.  This week, I’m sharing fun & easy ways to document childhood!

fun & easy ways to document childhood

As I was prepping for this week’s blog series, I was playing around with a stack of prints.  I was laying out photos of Colin, comparing him at each age, and suddenly thought it would be a fun idea to make a birthday banner featuring the progression.  I shared last month that taking updated portraits is one of my favorite birthday traditions, so this is a fun way to put those photos to use!

Again, this idea is pretty basic, but I love encouraging everyone to USE their photos (whether or not they were taken by Miss Freddy)!  And adding a new photo each year is a fun way to document childhood!

A little tip on hanging banners… I love to use these clear 3M command hooks.  I’ve tried various washi tapes to hold banners, but they always seem to come crashing down after (not very much) time.  These small hooks do the trick!

Another photo banner idea:  use your monthly onesie photos (I shared a free download for the monthly signs earlier this week!) to create a birthday decoration for your little one’s first birthday!

Easy & cute!  Plus you can customize the banner colors to match the onesie signs or coordinate with the birthday party colors!

I felt a little silly turning this into a template because it’s prettttty straight forward, but at least if you download my template, you’ll know the flags are perfectly sized to hold 4×6 photo prints!
